PROVINCIAL PRIOR'S BODYGUARD

A Message of Welcome from our Commander...

On behalf of the Officers and Knights of the Provincial Prior's Bodyguard, may I welcome you to our page on the Priovincial Priory of Durham website. Here you will find information on the membership and activities of the Bodyguard, as well as the qualifications for joining.

The Provincial Prior's Bodyguard is comprised primarily of Knights of the Order who have yet to attain the office of Preceptor in their own Preceptories. Its function is to provide service to the Provincial Prior when he is in attendance at a Preceptory meeting or other function, and to carry out ceremonial duties as required by the Provincial Marshal.

We have high expectations for our Bodyguard members, especially with regards to sword drill and ceremonial matters. The Bodyguard conducts official ceremonial duties at Provincial Deputations and formal visits to Preceptories, as well as attending to the requirements of the Provincial Prior at the annual meetings of Provincial Priory; the most recognisable part of our drill is the "Arch of Steel", performed on admission to and recession from a meeting.

Provincial Prior's Bodyguard: Our President

BECOME A BODYGUARD MEMBER

Knights are appointed to the Bodyguard by the Provincial Prior under the advisement of the Provincial Marshal and the Bodyguard Commander. In the past, one Knight would be appointed from each Preceptory in the Province, however, any Knight who would like to become a member will now be considered.
