E Kt Richard Hamlyn Tucker MBE PGtStB(B)

Richard joined Freemasonry as a Lewis whilst serving with the Royal Air Force in Germany; many family members and Freemasons from the Provinces of Devon and Cornwall travelled to witness his initiation in Star of Saxony Lodge No.853 on the roll of the Grand Lodge of British Freemasons in Germany under the auspices of the United Grand Lodges of Germany. Richard had joined the RAF in 1976 as a Mechanical Transport Driver, and completed tours in Germany, Sardinia, Cyprus, Belize and the First Gulf War. Upon completing his military service, he worked for Safeway as an Operations Manager, rising to General Manager in charge of a large distribution centre. Following redundancy, Richard formed two companies, AAA Property North East and AAA Caring Caretaker.

Whilst in Germany, he was exalted into Royal Arch Masonry in United Services Chapter No.2 and was installed as a Knight of the Order in St. George’s Preceptory No.7. In Craft Masonry, he was promoted to the rank of Past Grand Standard Bearer in the Grand Lodge of British Freemasons in Germany. In Templar Masonry, he has served as a member of the Most Eminent and Supreme Grand Master’s Bodyguard in Germany and as Past Grand Standard Bearer (Vexillum Belli) in the Great Priory of the Netherlands. Returning to the UK after 20 years of overseas service, Richard joined St. Oswald Lodge No.4260 in Darlington, serving as Master in 1998 and 2004, and Darlington Chapter No.1379, serving as 1st Principal in 2010. He joined Wycliffe Preceptory No.292 in 1995 and became Eminent Preceptor in 2006.

He was first honoured with office in the Provincial Priory with the rank of Provincial Almoner in 2007. Subsequent appointments include Past Provincial 2nd Constable in 2009 and Provincial Registrar in 2010, a capacity in which he served until being appointed as Provincial Sub Prior in 2017. In Great Priory, Richard served as the Grand Master’s Banner Bearer in 2013. He has continued to provide service in many Preceptories; as Eminent Preceptor in the Durham Preceptory of Installed Preceptors No.567 and as a founding member and Preceptor in Ashbrook Preceptory No.690 in North and East Yorkshire.

In addition to the above, Richard has been active in many other Masonic Orders, including amongst others the Rose Croix, the Knights Beneficent of the Holy City and the Masonic Order of Athelstan.

Richard was invested as a Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE) in 2017 for services to business and the community and, as a member of the Worshipful Company of Paviors, is a Freeman of the City of London. He is also an Advisory Board Member to the University of Teesside, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, a Fellow of the Institute of Leadership and Management and is a Chartered Fellow of the Institute of Logistics and Transport. Richard has been married to Pam for 37 years and has two children, Alison and James, and two grandchildren, Lewis and William.
